Cheoah River Release Schedule 2013 – Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting

August 29, 2012 by

Its that time of year again, the Cheoah River Release Schedule for 2013!

Running along US HWY 129, the Cheoah River is nestled right outside of Robbinsville in Graham County North Carolina.

At 9 miles long, the Cheoah is packed with Class IV and V rapids, with the most intense stretch being the “Canyon” located at the very last 1-2 mile segment. The Cheoah River is considered extremely challenging! Experience is required!

If you are looking to kayak, make sure to bring a couple of trusted sidekicks who are familiar with the rapids and if you are rafting make sure to go with a guided trip. The Cheoah is so intense, that there are only two main outfitters that raft the river:

*Nantahala Outdoor Center

*Endless River Adventures

Sounds a little too intense for you? Don’t despair! There are numerous other rivers in the area that are great starting points for your whitewater experience including the Nantahala, Ocoee, French Broad, and Chattooga Rivers.

Maybe watching sounds more your speed?

About ¾ the way down the river, right before the Tapoco Lodge, one will see numerous cars parked on the side of the road. These are all spectators, photographers, and safety specialists on hand to watch one of the more exciting rapids: Bear Creek Falls. At 15ft, Bear Creek Falls offers rafters and kayakers one of the more intense challenges the Cheoah River has to offer.

Looking to stay dry?

The Cheoah River is located on the historic US HWY 129 that is famous for its curves! Known as the Tail of the Dragon or Dragons at Deals Gap, this stretch of US HWY 129 offers a heart pounding drive through 318 turns over 11 miles. This scenic road through the Smoky Mountains can test the skills of any driver!

Without further ado here is the Cheoah River Rafting Schedule for 2013!
